Leif Erikson, born in Iceland in AD 970, landed on the shores of North America 500 years before Christopher Columbus. But I'm sure Columbus was a good guy too.
A beautiful statue of Leif Erikson in Reykjavik, Iceland. Sculpted by A. Sterling Calder, it was presented by the United States Government in 1931 to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of Iceland’s Althing, the world’s oldest parliament.
